Tieflings are beings of infernal heritage, marked by their distinctive horns, tails, and unsettling features. Born from a lineage viewed with suspicion, they are known for their cunning and charisma, traits essential for navigating a world that often shuns them. Their innate magical power—often linked to fire and darkness—serves as a source of strength, reflecting their deep-seated value of individuality and self-expression.
Traits
Every species has unique traits that define their abilities and characteristics. The Tiefling species attains all of the following bonus traits:
You know the Thaumaturgy cantrip. When you cast it with this trait, the spell uses the same spellcasting ability you use for your Fiendish Legacy trait.
You are the recipient of a legacy that grants you supernatural abilities. Choose a legacy from one of the lineages.
You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light.
Lineages
Lineages provides a unique identity for your character's ancestry and gives the species one or more bonuses. The Tiefling species has the following lineages and can choose only one lineage:
Infernal
Bound to the Nine Hells, their bloodline whispers of Asmodeus' cunning.
- Fiendish Legacy: Fire: You have Resistance to Fire damage. You also know the Fire Bolt cantrip.
- Hellish Rebuke: You can cast hellish rebuke once per long rest.
- Darkness: You can cast darkness once per long rest.
Abyssal
Tainted by the Abyss, their power festers like an open wound.
- Fiendish Legacy: Poison: You have resistance to poison damage. You also know the poison spray cantrip.
- Ray of Sickness: You can cast ray of sickness once per long rest.
- Hold Person: You can cast hold person once per long rest.
Chthonic
Linked to the underworld, their presence chills the living.
- Fiendish Legacy: Necrotic: You have Resistance to Necrotic damage. You also know the Chill Touch cantrip
- False Life: You can cast false life once per long rest.
- Ray of Enfeeblement: You can cast ray of enfeeblement once per long rest.
